Here are my favorite picks
“Some are produced great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them when found in the top picks.” – NG
Love
(2016-) A program that follows a couple who must navigate the exhilarations and humiliations of intimacy, commitment and other things they were hoping to avoid.
Runtime: 2 seasons Rated: TV-MA
Love is filled with dry, sarcastic, deadpan humour that is all wrapped around the harsh realities of love and the dating game. If love this type of humour then definitely try Love cause season 2 comes out March 10 2017.
The Little Death
(2014) The secret lives of five suburban couples living in Sydney reveal both the fetishes and the repercussions that come with sharing them.
Runtime: 1h 36m Rated: 18A
Here, I’ll say it….I think this is the funniest movie on Netflix. The laughter was constant and throughout the whole movie. The humour is dark and smart as the characters discover themselves and their really weird desires. Man humans are weird….lol. I was expecting another raunchy, silly, sex comedy, what I got was brilliant hilarity that exceeded all my expectations.
The Breakfast Club
(1985) Five high school students, all different stereotypes, meet in detention, where they pour their hearts out to each other, and discover how they have a lot more in common than they thought.
Runtime: 1h 37m Rated: R
The Breakfast Club one of the best movies to come out of the 80’s. This movie is powerful, smart, funny, and honest. John Hughes really captures what it’s like to be a teenager unlike most of the movies today. The classic soundtrack only adds to how great this movie really is. If you haven’t seen it you have to watch it and if you have seen it you should watch it again.
Narcos
(2015) A chronicled look at the criminal exploits of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar.
Runtime: 2 seasons Rated: TV-14
Bravo Netflix! This is a story that finally got the authentic, high-quality production it deserves. This show is truly gripping and fascinating as it is frightening.
Happy Valley
(2014-) Catherine Cawood is the sergeant on duty when flustered and nervous accountant Kevin Weatherill comes into her West Yorkshire station to report a crime.
Runtime: 2 seasons / 1 hour each episode
This was a big surprise to me. This BBC and now Netflix series is really amazing. The script and the acting make this one not to be missed. Happy Valley is very dramatic and filled with protagonists to root for and antagonists you want to just kill. The Yorkshire accents are pretty thick so, if you need to, click your subtitles on English so you don’t miss any of that great dialogue. If you Give it more than one episode and you’ll be hooked. This is what happens when your ask for a raise and don’t get it……
Pulp Fiction
(1994) The lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster’s wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption.
Runtime: 2h 34m Rated: R
I don’t give a 100% out that easily but Pulp Fiction is a perfect movie. If you have not scene this movie, stop reading this right now and go watch it. Brilliant screenplay, dialogue, directing, cinematography, acting, and soundtrack. This movie is filled with unforgettable, intense scenes that will stay with you forever. Makes me want a Big Kahuna Burger.
A Hijacking
(2012) The crew of a Danish cargo ship is hijacked by Somali pirates who proceed to engage in escalating negotiations with authorities in Copenhagen.
Runtime: 1h 43m Rated: R
This is an excellent film scene through two sets of eyes. One being a family man who is a cook aboard the doomed ship. The second view is of the corporate politics behind negotiating with the desperate pirates for the protection and release of the company’s employees. This is an inside look into the dirty world of piracy. Great realistic, intense thriller. If you enjoyed Captain Philips you will love A Hijacking.
The Usual Suspects
(1995) A boat has been destroyed, criminals are dead, and the key to this mystery lies with the only survivor and his twisted, convoluted story beginning with five career crooks in a seemingly random police lineup.
Runtime: 1h 46m Rated: 14A
The Usual Suspects is one of the greatest crime thrillers ever made. The all star cast manipulate their way through a very entertaining complex screenplay that ultimately leaves you asking the big question, “Who is Keyser Soze?”
Admiral
(2015) When the young republic of The Netherlands is attacked by England, France and Germany and the country itself is on the brink of civil war, only one man can lead the county’s strongest weapon, the Dutch fleet: Michiel de Ruyter.
Runtime: 2h 8m Rated: TV MA
Admiral is based on a true story of one of the greatest Admirals in naval history. This is a great ride filled with rich history, swashbuckling and the best naval war scenes I’ve seen in a while. I highly recommend this flick if not only because this battle was where the navy seals were invented and made their first appearance.
The Fall
(2013-) Two hunters, one cold, deliberate and highly efficient and the other, a strong, athletic man with a wife, two children and a counselling job… one of them is a serial killer and one is a cop.
Runtime: 2 seasons Rated: TV-MA
The Fall is a classic dark thriller with contemporary twists and turns. Gillian Anderson is brilliant as is her antagonist Jamie Dornan who’s character lives a double life as a serial killer. The Fall is a dark cat and mouse game that is well written and strategically filmed.
